quattro/Laboratory Journal
Knowledge sharing is one of the key success factors in modern research and development projects. Only proper documentation of experiments provides a solid basis for this knowledge sharing. In addition, documentation is a pre-requisite for protecting intellectual property rights.
Philosophy behind quattro/LJ
In a traditional manner experiments are documented in paper laboratory notebooks. After an experiment is finished, the entry is signed by the scientist and a witness. quattro/LJ works in a similar way. The scientist starts his documentation by creating a new experiment. Then laboratory journal entries are added to that experiment. quattro/LJ is used like a standard word processor (e.g. Microsoft Word). All information is entered either directly or by copy&paste from other applications. After an entry is finished, it can be finalized, printed, signed and archived.
Key Features
- Easy to learn for anyone familiar with standard paper based laboratory notebooks.
- Integrated chemistry engine.
- Powerful search capabilities.
- Synthesis planning.
- Support for biological experiments, e.g. Western blots or HTS.
- Integrated project management.
- Management of raw data files.
- Allows the use of OLE-Objects (charts, images, tables…).
- No proprietary data formats, just plain RTF, MDL SDF, PDF.
- User and security management.
- Audit trails for user and database operations.
Searching
quattro/LJ allows searching for text, metadata, e.g. biological results, and chemistry. All different search types can be combined by Boolean search operators.Chemistry searches include substructure, Tanimoto and tautomers. Depending on security settings, a user can search lab notebooks of all employees he has access to.
Attachments
quattro/LJ stores all kind of attachments together with the respective lab notebook entry. This approach allows the user to keep the documentation and related raw data together in one system.
The quattro/LJ search engine recognizes several data types and provides the user with an interface to handle and work with them.
Synthesis planning
quattro/LJ supports chemists in all aspects of synthesis planning. Reactions can be edited directly in the system. Stoichiometry calculation and direct link to online databases improve the productivity of any synthesis lab.
Of course, the synthesis planner can be directly coupled to an existing inventory system. Our current custom solutions comprise automatic compound requests and preparations of compound orders.
Biological data assistant
quattro/LJ supports the biologist in the evaluation and documentation of experiments like e.g. Western Blots. quattro/LJ provides tools to annotate the results and allows safe storage and fast retrieval of the original images and related raw data.
An interface to our HTS data analysis solution quattro/Workflow integrates results from screening experiments.
Project management
quattro/LJ includes project management facilities inside the system, especially suited for companies with a large number of customer projects. Experiments and documentation are linked directly to a project. Project experiments can be accessed and modified by every member of the project team.
An additional module allows tracking project costs.
