Functionalities

  • XBRL Taxonomies

XBRL taxonomies define the structure, logic, and semantics of data reported by financial entities. They are the foundation of every XBRL project – the quality of a taxonomy determines the accuracy, consistency, and interpretability of reports. Precise tools for creating and maintaining taxonomies are essential both for regulators designing standards and for entities developing extensions to existing taxonomies.

The provided tools support the full taxonomy lifecycle – from design and development through validation and maintenance. This enables organizations to manage complex reporting structures in a controlled and secure manner.

Our solution is successfully used in the development of taxonomies for most national and international jurisdictions, as well as Standard Business Reporting (SBR) programs worldwide, confirming its reliability, scalability, and compliance with the highest industry standards.

  • Taxonomy Browsing

Browsing and navigating the structure of XBRL taxonomies – including concepts, linkbases, and relationships between elements. It enables taxonomy exploration, structural validation, and analysis of dependencies between elements.

The scope of functionality includes, among others:

    • Linkbase views – dedicated access to each taxonomy linkbase (Presentation, Calculation, Definition, Label, Reference, Table, Formula), with the ability to browse elements within each linkbase as well as their relationships and dependencies.

    • XWand Query – querying taxonomy content using an SQL-like query language; enables precise searching and filtering of taxonomy data without the need for manual navigation through the structure.

    • Business rules overview – access to business rules, calculation formulas, and validation assertions defined in the taxonomy, along with analysis of dependencies between related concepts.

    • Report structure visualization – presentation of taxonomies in the form of reporting tables compliant with the Table Linkbase and Presentation Linkbase specifications, reflecting how data is displayed in final reports. It enables analysis of report layout and structure, verification of data presentation correctness, identification of layout issues, and testing of compliance with requirements. Additionally, Excel templates generated automatically based on Table Linkbase definitions can be exported.

    • Taxonomy version comparison – comparison of two taxonomy versions with identification of changes in structure and linkbases.

    • Documentation export – generation of reports containing taxonomy attributes and structure in HTML and spreadsheet formats.

  • Taxonomy Creation and Editing

Creating custom taxonomies from scratch and/or developing extensions to existing regulatory taxonomies (e.g., EBA, EIOPA, SRB, ESMA ESEF, ESG, IFRS, GAAP).

Creation and editing cover all layers of a taxonomy, including:

    • Definition Linkbase – creating and managing relationships between taxonomy elements, including the definition and editing of dimensional structures such as hypercubes, dimensions, and domain members.

    • Label Linkbase – managing labels and descriptions of elements in multiple languages, supporting multilingual reporting and international taxonomy use cases.

    • Presentation Linkbase and Table Linkbase – defining how data is presented and structured in reports, according to end-user and regulatory requirements.

    • Formula Linkbase and Calculation Linkbase – modelling business rules, mathematical dependencies, and validation logic ensuring data consistency and correctness.

Our portfolio includes intuitive, visual editors for all key XBRL taxonomy layers, significantly simplifying the design and maintenance of data models.

Our solution also provides full support for taxonomy maintenance processes, including updates, versioning, and change management. This enables efficient adaptation of data models to evolving regulatory and business requirements.

  • Taxonomy Validation

Validation of every layer of an XBRL taxonomy – from XSD structure to business rules – ensuring compliance with applicable specifications and eliminating errors before production deployment.

The validation scope includes, among others:

    • Compliance with XBRL specifications – XBRL, Dimensions, Calculations, Extensible Enumerations, Formula, OIM, Table Linkbase, Data Type Registry, Linkrole Registry, Generic Links, Taxonomy Package, and others.

    • Business and calculation rules – testing Formula Linkbase assertions, Calculation Linkbase computations on sample data, and verifying validation conditions prior to taxonomy publication.

The validation process is designed to support both technical teams and business experts, ensuring full compliance with XBRL International specifications and regulatory requirements.

Our tools significantly reduce the risk of errors, increase data model reliability, and ensure full compliance with applicable standards.

  • XBRL Reports

XBRL reports are a carrier of financial and non-financial data submitted by reporting entities to regulators and other stakeholders. At the stage of report creation, validation, and visualization, the quality and completeness of data is verified – the information must be accurate, consistent, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Reliable tools supporting the full lifecycle of XBRL reports are essential for both reporting entities and regulators receiving and processing the data.

Our solutions are used by national supervisory authorities across Europe and other regions of the world to build and operate advanced XBRL-based data collection systems. With many years of experience, we have a deep understanding of both the technical and business requirements on both sides of the reporting process – regulators and reporting entities subject to reporting obligations.

  • Report Creation and Editing

Creating reports from scratch or based on existing data – with full support for requirements defined by the taxonomy, such as data types, concept hierarchies, dimensions, allowed dimensional combinations, permissible values, and more.

During data entry, users receive real-time validation errors and warnings, enabling early detection and correction of issues. Reports can be created and edited interactively in graphical user interface applications, via Excel templates, or programmatically through an API.

A completed report can be exported to any supported format.

  • Report Validation

Report validation ensures full compliance of data with technical, business, and regulatory requirements.

The validation scope includes verification of report correctness against:

    • XBRL specifications (XBRL, Inline XBRL, Dimensions, OIM, Table Constraints, Report Package, etc.)
    • rules defined as assertions within the taxonomy – in the Formula Linkbase layer
    • rules defined as calculations within the taxonomy – in the Calculation Linkbase layer
    • Filing Rules – an additional set of requirements published by taxonomy authors (such as EBA, EIOPA, SRB, ESMA, etc.), which extend beyond the validation scope defined in XBRL taxonomy specifications

    The validation process enables:

    • detection of structural and logical errors in XBRL reports
    • identification of inconsistencies in financial and business data
    • verification of compliance with applicable taxonomies and regulations
    • ensuring conformity with regulatory requirements prior to report submission
  • Report Visualization

Report visualization provides a clear and user-friendly view of XBRL data designed for business users. Visualization is available both in desktop application graphical interfaces and in XLSX or HTML formats:

    • Table Linkbase – data is presented in the form of multidimensional tables, faithfully reflecting the templates defined by the regulator in the taxonomy.
    • Presentation Linkbase – reports are displayed as a hierarchical structure, consistent with the layout defined by the taxonomy authors.
    • Inline XBRL (iXBRL) – the original XHTML document as prepared by the reporter, with interactive navigation through embedded XBRL tags.

In all variants, visualization is linked to validation results, allowing users to immediately locate incorrect or missing data directly within the report context.
    Our solutions enable:

    • clear presentation of financial and reporting data
    • visual highlighting of key information and anomalies
    • easy filtering and data analysis
    • integration with widely used tools such as Excel
    • reduced time required for report analysis and validation

By combining XBRL technology with effective data visualization methods, we help organizations increase reporting efficiency, improve data quality, and facilitate communication between technical and business teams, as well as between reporting entities and supervisory authorities.
